NET-WORKS PROJECT IS GETTING TO WORK!

The Doane Net Project founder, Brad Elder, heads back to Africa in January to implement the Zambia Net-Works Project. 

Professor Elder will spend 10 days with the Power of Love Foundation’s (POL) staff at their site in Matero, Zambia. While there, he will teach POL staff how to make mosquito prevention screens, bed nets and other useful products from waste plastic. 

The technique he developed is straightforward and requires only a few supplies all of which have proven to be readily available even in remote and underserved areas. Among other important aspects of the trip, the project will provide employment for local seamstresses as well as training that will allow them to market their sewing skills by making screens and nets that will reduce malaria rates in their communities. Once the POL staff is trained, they will partner with Professor Elder to offer a series of workshops open to the public. Those who attend will learn to make products out of waste plastic and will be offered education about best practices in malaria prevention. The Zambia Net-Works project anticipates being able to train approximately 300 people next month.
