CENTER FOR JUSTICE REFORM

Center for Justice Reform - Vermont Law School
Now more than ever, the criminal justice system is ethically and financially untenable. Plagued by the unsustainable costs of incarceration, high recidivism rates, the burden and collateral consequences of criminal convictions, and racial, economic, and geographic inequalities, our communities need alternatives to the traditional criminal justice model. The Center for Justice Reform at Vermont Law School is a statewide, national, and international educational and training hub for justice reform efforts. The Center strives to address deficiencies in justice systems and to train the next generation of justice leaders. |
During the summer of 2018, Pennywise had the opportunity to be a sponsor of the Center's International Restorative Justice Conference, which brought together practitioners and justice reform leaders from around the world. We also partnered with the Center and state prosecutors to conduct Expungement Days around the state of Vermont. These efforts help people remove eligible convictions from their records so that their rights can be restored.
The Center not only identifies and promotes best practices, but also builds the partnerships and leverages the resources necessary to translate those practices into real-world positive change. This type of approach is what Pennywise is all about.
