Since building Haiti’s first EcoSan toilet and waste treatment facility, SOIL has gone on to become one of the country’s most well-respected sanitation providers. SOIL is sustainably providing over 700 households with dignified, in-home sanitation for less than $5 USD per household per month. SOIL’s EcoSan waste treatment facilities treat more than 360 tons of human waste annually. By converting human wastes into rich compost, SOIL’s work aims to create meaningful livelihood opportunities throughout the ecological sanitation cycle, empowering people and restoring ecosystems. This holistic approach to sanitation ensures that SOIL is creating a truly sustainable sanitation system that creates economic livelihood opportunities at every point in the sanitation chain while transforming a public health problem into an environmental resource.
SOIL’s goals and outcomes correspond precisely to virtually all of the Pennywise priorities. We are excited to support this paradigm-shifting work.
