The Wash Foundation — an evolution of Clean the World Foundation — is a social enterprise whose mission is to save millions of lives around the world by collecting, recycling, and distributing discarded soap and plastic amenity bottles. Participating hospitality partners provide these materials, which the WASH Foundation then gives to children and families in countries with high death rates due to acute respiratory infection (pneumonia) and diarrheal diseases (cholera).
The distribution of these and other donated hygiene products to impoverished people help prevent millions of hygiene-related illnesses and deaths every year.
Pennywise supported CTW's Menstrual Hygiene Management Project in Uganda, teaching girls and women to manufacture reusable fabric menstrual pads and providing them with the tools and training to produce, market, and sell them to female members of the communities. This project ultimately prevents non-recyclable menstrual products from entering landfills and clogging septic systems. Solving a problem while creating income and educational opportunities for women is a thoughtful, smart and sustainable path to a better world.
