400 people in the Jucuapa Occidental are waiting for reliable access to clean water and hygienic sanitation. 

Agua Para la Vida (APLV), local residents and the municipal government have raised nearly 90% of the funds needed to build a low cost, highly effective system that will meet the water and sanitation needs of the Jucuapa Occidental community. Sadly, as a result of the current political crisis, APLV lost funding that would have enabled them to break ground on this critical project.

Our thoughts are with our friends at Agua Para La Vida (APLV) as we learn more each day about the violence erupting across Nicaragua. It is estimated that more than 60 people have died during the largest street protests the country has seen since the civil war ended in 1990. The political unrest has made travel difficult and is further isolating the country’s most underserved communities. While this crisis continues to unfold, we’ve been assured that the APLV staff is safe and that they are determined to move forward with their life saving clean water projects.
