Skis for Change is an innovative fundraising and community-building enterprise by and for skiers in Vermont. It includes:
- A peer-to-peer, online platform for buying, selling and donating new and used skis gear while raising money for charity and reducing waste.
- The annual Skis for Change event at J Skis in Burlington, Vermont, where ski-related goods, services, and experiences are auctioned at a vibrant celebration of skiing and giving.
- Collecting unwanted skis and delivering them to artisans so that they can be transformed into art and furniture instead of being dumped in landfills.
The primary beneficiaries of Skis for Change are Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports and the High Fives Foundation. To date, Skis for Change has generated more than $30,000 for these and other incredible nonprofit organizations dedicated to increasing access to outdoor recreation and preserving natural resources. Skis for Change has also collected dozens of retired skis that otherwise would have been discarded as garbage.
The annual event
The Skis for Change event is held annually at J Skis Bar and Lounge and includes a silent auction featuring top quality ski gear, accessories and experiences. Guests have the opportunity to shop J Skis and Ski the East merchandise while enjoying delicious food and drink. This unique event demonstrates best practices in non-profit and corporate partnerships by reducing waste, raising revenue and increasing awareness. Focused on increasing access to winter sports, Skis for Change collects gently used ski gear and donates it to charitable organizations that are increasing access to skiing and reducing waste.
