Ashudeb

Pennywise is partnering with ASHUDEB (Humanitarian Association for Grassroots Development) to address the lack of fundamental needs for vulnerable populations in southern Senegal. Using its network of local connections, the organization creates direct and lasting change in the lives of hundreds.

ASHUDEB focuses on grass-roots efforts curated by the needs articulated within communities themselves. The organization’s initiatives center around vulnerable populations— such as women, children, and families of immigrants— and prioritize creating autonomy and resilience. The vision of ASHUDEB is to have a Senegal where all communities have access to education, health, food security, and durable economic opportunities in an environment respectful of human rights.

ASHUDEB aligns well with the priorities of Pennywise because the organization is focused on addressing the intersectionality of threats to human rights as well as creating lasting, independent change. ASHUDEB researches the challenges and existing resources of the communities within which it works to ensure that their interventions respond to the most critical needs. Each of ASHUDEB’s projects prioritize creating meaningful, lasting connections with the people that they serve and promoting human rights throughout Senegal.
